I've been to many weddings in my life, starting as a kid. Remember, I'm from New Orleans. When I was growing up there were no $187 per person receptions halls. Everyone was invited to the wedding, including your kids. As an adult, I've been a bridesmaid many times. As a result, I've heard lots and lots of wedding songs. Because of my experiences, I'm begging you to never play these songs at your wedding. Please, for the love of all that is holy, just don't.

5. "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler
I actually like this song a lot. It's perfect for your grandmother's 90th birthday or your parents' 50th anniversary celebration. But for a wedding? No. Trust me on this one.
http://youtu.be/M912EcPDrKM

4. "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion
I'll probably get some flak for this one because it's the song my sister and my dad danced to at her wedding. I don't have a huge problem with this song either except that it lasts longer than some marriages. My dad's feet were probably hurting when the song was over. Do you know what made this part of my sister's wedding video entertaining? My mom in the background scratching her butt. (Sorry for mentioning this here, Mom. I just had to.)
http://youtu.be/9CkKuA86Mis\

3. Any song from Phantom of the Opera
Because nothing says "happy marriage" like a crazy guy in a mask obsessed with a woman he can't have
http://youtu.be/n5dhyiqhR7Y

2. "Color My World" by Chicago
Chicago has recorded many great songs over the years. This is not one of them. In fact, it sounds a little like they recorded it in someone's garage. If you want the DJ to play a Chicago song at your wedding reception, pick "You're the Inspiration" instead. That's a great one. This one is not.
http://youtu.be/swHjpyrV1e8

And the number one song to not play at your wedding is...

"After the Lovin'" by Engelbert Humperdinck!
Back in the day, women swooned all over Engelbert. I have no idea why. Tom Jones, yeah. Engelbert, no. But I digress. This song is the worst Engelbert Humperdinck song I've ever heard. In fact, it's the only Engelbert Humperdinck song I've heard. It was enough, though. Brides, DO NOT EVER PLAY THIS SONG AT YOUR WEDDING! Just please don't.
http://youtu.be/2kNJBnhJPO8

I'd love to know what you think. Please feel free to share any wedding songs you dislike or if you think I'm crazy for not liking these songs.
Before I begin, I have a confession to make. I once watched a season of Big Brother. In my defense, I was living alone in a FEMA trailer and had a TV that got only three stations. I really didn't have much of a choice. Once I moved back into my house and got cable TV again, I saw the error of my ways. My mom, on the other hand, loves BB and watches it faithfully. As she watched tonight's episode, I lay on the love seat and played with my phone. I was aware enough, though, to see what was going on and decided to give my take on the whole thing.

Just before this episode of BB began, I saw a commercial for Rally's in which a man in a cheap chicken suit went around and hugged people. Little did I know that cheap ass looking chicken would be the highligh of my hour. The show began with a recap of last week's eviction. Lifeguard guy David was voted out of the house. His showmance partner A-a-ron was pissed. (Actually, her name is Aaryn or something like that, but I prefer my version.) Anyway, A-a-ron was pissed because her boyfriend had been voted out of the house. Nevermind the fact that she knew him for about a whole week. She was in LOVE, people! She wanted REVENGE! By this point, all of the house guests should have been shaking in their boots. They weren't.

Then we switched to the Head of Household competition. For those of you unfamiliar with Big Brother, the HOH gets to nominate two fellow house guests for eviction. A-a-ron was determined to win! The house guests were randomly paired up and had to fill up a jug with BBQ sauce while walking on a greased sidewalk or something like that. I'd have ended up in a body cast, but this isn't about me. Somehow, A-a-ron and her Handsome But Stupid Partner won! What a coincidence! A-a-ron then started yelling at the other folks because they voted out the Lifeguard. How dare they! Of course no one would admit to it because apparently these people are stupid but not that stupid.

The HOH gets a special private bedroom, and A-a-ron is no exception. She got some special food goodies, favorite photos, and her favorite childhood toy--a creepy ass clown. I'm not kidding. One of the Beautiful People in the house said the creepy ass clown would probably kill someone while he/she was sleeping. I agree.

Oh yeah. A-a-ron is a racist. She makes fun of the other house guests. She's actually been fired from her job because of it. She doesn't know yet because Big Brother people are sequestered. Boo A-a-ron.

Then there's a chick named Elissa or something like that, but I'm going to refer to her as AC for Annoying Chick. She has an annoying voice and tends to wear big and/or sparkly things in her hair. Apparently AC's sister won this whole shebang a few years ago, so she has a huge target on her back for that reason and the fact that she is, well, annoying. Some of the Big Brother people want to get rid of AC. Haven't these people watched enough reality TV to know that you always keep the annoying person around?! You always want to be up against the annoying person in the finale so you can win! Sheesh!

So most of the episode was spent bad mouthing AC and watching A-a-ron plot her REVENGE against the people who voted out Lifeguard. Meanwhile, there was this really nice gal named Helen (I'll use her real name because she was nice). Helen was treated like crap and, along with a few others, was forced to eat liver and lima beans for the week. I don't know about Helen, but I'd lose about five pounds because I would not be eating that shizz. BTW, Helen is friends with AC. Seriously. I told you Helen was nice.

There's also another Beautiful Person I'm secretly rooting for. Her name is Candice, and she's from Metairie. In a Six Degrees of Separation thing, she was a student at a school where I taught several years ago. I didn't teach her nor did I really know her, but we have a Connection! Of course I'm rooting for her!

The last scene of the show was the Nomination Ceremony. Of course it was last. They have to save the big drama for last. I was hoping the cheap ass chicken suit guy would wander through, but it was not to be. This whole Nomination Ceremony thing consists of the house guests pulling keys with their names from some kind of lazy Susan. The two people left without keys are nominated for eviction. Handsome But Stupid guy tried to convince A-a-ron to nominate one of the Beautiful People, but she instead went with nice Helen and AC. Of course she did. Helen cried on AC's shoulder because you have to have to have someone cry in every episode of these shows.

So there you go. I don't know that I'll be watching again, but I might if it gives me something good to write about.

days. Some things haven’t changed a
bit. Drew Brees is still the Saints
quarterback. Michael Phelps and Ryan
Lochte are still swimming in the Olympics for the United States. New Orleans summers are still hot. But while some things remain the same, other
things change a lot. It was while watching the Olympics that I began to reflect on some of these changes.

Probably the biggest change for me in the last four years is
where I’m currently teaching. Four years
ago I was part of a brand new school.
Our faculty excitedly moved things into a building that still didn’t
have toilet seats. I was now the veteran
in a sea of fresh faces. We came
together to give kids the best education possible. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out there
for me. I have no hard feelings or ill
will towards anyone. It just wasn’t meant
to be. Thankfully I had the courage to
realize this and make a move. I went to
work at another brand new school. At
least this one had toilet seats. It hasn’t
always been easy, but my experiences at this school and my last one have made
me stronger and a better person. In two
weeks I will begin my 15th year of teaching, my third at my current
school. I’m not really excited about it
yet because I want my summer vacation to last a little longer, but I know I’ll
be ready once I see those kids enter my classroom. They make me want to be a better person and a
better teacher.

The summer of 2008 was important in another way. It was through a message board and a love of
all things Twilight that I met some of my dearest friends. We came from different backgrounds but shared
a mutual love. I spent many late nights on
my computer during that summer, chatting and laughing with these amazing
ladies. Some friends have come and gone,
but I have remained close to several of them.
It’s because of these ladies that I’ve visited Times Square in New York,
auditioned for Wheel of Fortune, worn a tiara while grocery shopping, and posed
in a bomb shelter in front of the World War II museum. I can’t imagine my life without these
friends.

Something else amazing that’s happened within the last four
years? The Saints won a Super Bowl. Yep. I
never thought I’d live long enough to see that.
It was one of the greatest nights of my life. Seriously.

A lot has happened over the last four years, some good and
some bad, but all of these things have helped me become the person I am
today. In 2016 we will have yet another
leap year, another presidential election, and another summer Olympics. I can’t wait to see what the world has in
store for me between now and then.

Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-48308758125841764032012-07-19T12:59:00.000-05:002012-07-19T12:59:26.558-05:00Bike Rides and a Mother's Love<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ummmm, wow, I haven't blogged in four years! Where has the time gone?! Well, I was thinking of this funny story today, and I decided to share it with the world. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. OK, I don't always enjoy telling it, but it needs to be told.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now, before I go any further, I need to give two disclaimers
here. One, my mom really is a caring,
compassionate person. She may not come
across that way in this story, but trust me, she is. Two, my mom will likely dispute every single
detail in this story, but hey, she’s getting old and doesn’t remember
stuff. I was there. I know what happened. This is the true story.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Way back when, around 1984, my mom was a bike-riding
fool. She’d head out in the evenings on
her bike, and we wouldn’t see her for a couple of hours. She’d ride a minimum of six miles a day. It was pretty impressive. On one fateful day, Mom asked me to accompany
her on her ride. I think we both had a
momentary lapse of sanity. For Mom it
was the fact that she asked me. For me
it was the fact that I agreed to go.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So we took off on that bike ride on a warm June
afternoon. Our local supermarket,
Delchamps, was still under construction, and the shoulder of Judge Perez Dr.
was slightly blocked. (BTW, my mom still
mourns the passing of Delchamps. It was
over 10 years ago, Mom. It’ll be
OK.) Anyway, there were yellow
barricades with flashing lights on the shoulder of the road, and they were
connected with yellow caution tape. I
have no idea why Mom was riding her bike in flip flops, but she was. As we rode, her flip flop caught on the
caution tape and pulled down a barricade.
As I approached the downed barricade, I had to think fast. Rush hour traffic was speeding down Judge
Perez, and as anyone from da parish knows, that part of Judge Perez is like the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Well, I
didn’t think fast enough, and my bike hit the downed barricade. I flew off of the bike.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yes, I was lying on the side of Judge Perez Dr. during rush
hour traffic on top of a fallen barricade as its yellow lights blinked
underneath me. No, it was not one of my
shining moments. OK, maybe it was
considering there were flashing lights.
But I digress.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mom realized what happened and came back to check on
me. In true My Mom Fashion, she
expressed her concern as only she could.
She told me to get up and get back on the bike because I was
embarrassing her.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Luckily I wasn’t hurt too badly, just scraped up palms and
knees. I finished our bike ride, but
after that I never rode with my mom again.
She loves telling this story. She tells it to everyone—new friends,
co-workers, potential husbands. Maybe
this is why I’m still single. Anyway, in
her version, I’m the one who caused the whole thing. She had nothing to do with it. Sure, Mom.
You keep believing that. It’s
about time the true story is told. And
here it is.
Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-79411303291012304462008-04-19T23:12:00.005-05:002008-04-19T23:28:02.937-05:00Love and Marriage

Isn't that what makes the world go round? No, I haven't fallen in love, nor have I gotten married since I last blogged. Wouldn't that be exciting if I had, though?

Last Friday we attended the wedding of our very dear friend Ann. Our families are really more like family than friends. It was wonderful to see everyone and have a great time with them. Here are a few pics from the evening.

Ann & Greg
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdoIX3gHl4DjUlfka-ulnKFWM5i5zqc7soMCGWMwCeO9mf4XdiHX2uUoVZww8lXTJ105g0vN4Pq3svYmKYxkNACm2is9aLnAIIIzl3LIJQgB5WoQN_3MTxtnpCwaX4Z21bt7Qv4w/s200/Ann+%26+Greg%27s+Wedding+041108+069.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191177239518143090" />

Deb & Me
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh33KYG6Jn6FCHLTz2FQm4m3UaQOLo6mDqgqxyc6ighYiF2XNXtUFU1E1ocPHumvlHuef4OYT7c31ioz0gnUR5OKo81AlNlHry7xap6qW37M8Bii6TeSXvml1Mk1cSTc8totBVeqw/s200/Ann+%26+Greg%27s+Wedding+041108+034.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191177243813110402" />

Deb & Rosalind
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQDbuD3nDEjYOwvxW91YXHEuUZwdi6LI42BiU7nS5kAPhK9T3yTzbpu0Zt5Gj_av9SB-ob_duH9ChjKHyyZwBITfE-gusxkAO8T6hxHCPwi6VhZ5tL5V9H4ROP6tc3eMncmLo3Iw/s200/Ann+%26+Greg%27s+Wedding+041108+060.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191177252403045010" />

Then on Wednesday, my parents celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. How amazing is that? In this day and age when people bail on marriages when the going gets tough, my parents have stuck it out all these years. They are so totally amazing, and I love them so very much.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVbeq5rqQsY_6O7nGYI3C6qRkZ9tcBypqbGa0QeA_G0ypaDoXjRaEPxRSr5SPALPZVCmSHE6QrH_7q9HtdItVfJbA-XYgb8teTFDkP9mU2GaWBY2lprc_3nlhqWWPM-EbBRt624Q/s200/easterzoobowl+029.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191177948187746978" />

Speaking of love, those of you who know me well know how much I love American Idol. This season has not disappointed! My favorite is David Cook. How can you not love him? He is amazing! I totally love what he did with this Mariah Carey song this past week. I don't know, though, that I want him to win. I'd like to see his career take a path similar to Chris Daughtry's. We shall see.

I also want to show a little love to an awesome writer. In my last post I mentioned some of my favorite Twilight fan fiction stories. I completely failed to mention the totally amazing Blondie. She can get inside Edward's head like no one else. I swear she has him trapped in her closet or something! You can find her fabulous stories here.

On a totally unrelated note, I have been so sick this weekend. I had a horrible cough for about a week before I finally went to the doctor Monday. He gave me two cough medicines, an antibiotic, and two shots before sending me merrily on my way. I felt great Monday night and all day Tuesday, but everything started up again on Wednesday. By last night my head was congested, and I was running fever. I'm feeling a bit better tonight, but you can rest assured I will be on the phone with the clinic first thing Monday morning!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-87967602444931320772008-04-13T16:22:00.003-05:002008-04-13T17:05:09.392-05:00Where Y'at?

Hello, dear blog readers! If you're still checking this blog, thank you very much. I know I've been a very, very bad blogger. I really have no excuses for not updating. So, just what have I been doing with myself?

*I've been working!
The big LEAP test was in mid-March, and I am so happy that it is over. The kids really took it seriously and tried their hardest. Now we're back from Spring Break and working through our last nine weeks. I hope they continue to work hard and do their best.

On a related note, I've made the difficult decision to leave Chalmette High next year. A new middle school is opening next year on the old St. Bernard High campus, and I've decided to transfer there. I have truly come to love teaching 8th grade, and I really want to continue that. It's going to be hard opening a brand-new school, but I feel like I'm up for the challenge. I have a very good feeling about this.

*I've been working out!
Shortly after Mardi Gras, I made the decision to join Curves again. I have not regretted it one bit! In only my first month back, I lost a total of seven inches! I was soooo excited! I've also lost 10 pounds since the beginning of the year. I feel a lot better, and people are starting to notice. I sure hope I can keep it up.

*These guys had birthdays!
Yep, my babies are growing up. On March 14, Puddy turned seven. Where did the time go?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqyA7hzQ_QTbinSqY1D4lYP8cSJ10mnQwvBy2LmTGGAz4_Be0ECE1J8js3aGb_MEkU11XfuPK3S2qFIE6uy2BtN1bY24bE9fJVhIOppSvxeULuoy80OU3-DmzyfNqKD_Chd3LCIA/s200/P3140110.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5188854026429408546" />

Then on April 9, Miss Kirby turned six. She's come a long way from the tiny little orphan we found way back when!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV3CzhJvjubV7Y0XpHQvB4VIIDIQdm0f6HyofilFYcIWdT0DlcEsYtDp3ow_QkqGMniu0kxApcyKcQTObz5NBa5dVZZDqQuOa9nMOsXU2G9OTIkCI-yb5qsvQ3UhNbTHU1UUFjtA/s200/P3100107.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5188854030724375858" />

*I've been scrapbooking!
Angela and I went to Scrapfest in February, and we had a great time. We went to a few other crops at Scrappin' Buds as well. Sadly, our beloved LSS has closed. They will still be holding crops and setting up shop for special events, but the Scrappin' Buds store as we know it is gone. Let us all observe a moment of silence.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgof1EnNsnlcyB6Nb6-Z1YfsrAcoIAjcOx0xUnK8rit2flhH30op-i_dlX-yFEegOwN3l_FwksgJXjSPFKWKXFDgRp-NE9cIhvR2RW6JUFlZZpVqi17dpIT16wUxgiX7Q8C6RZ3oQ/s200/scrappin+buds.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5188854035019343170" />

*I've been Twilight obsessed!
OK, those of you who are with me all the time know how I am over these books! I can't get enough! My latest obsession is Twilight fan fiction. There are some very talented ladies who are writing great stories about our beloved Twilight characters. Here are a few of my favorites.
Passion Fish
Sacrifices
Taking Chances
Stranger Than Fiction (warning--this one's rated NC-17!)
And possibly the greatest fan fiction story ever, Boycotts & Barflies. You will love this even if you aren't a Twilight fan!
The Twilight movie opens on December 12, and I've been anxiously following the news surrounding the filming. I can't wait until then!

I'll try to give you a more detailed post later in the week. Have a great day!Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-65651759247338386442008-02-02T10:31:00.000-06:002008-02-02T10:36:33.064-06:00It's Carnival Time!

Yep, it's that time of year again! Mardi Gras is this Tuesday. I'm heading out shortly to catch the super krewe of Endymion. I haven't been in several years, so I'm looking forward to it. Tomorrow I'm staying in since it's the Super Bowl. Go Giants and Eli Manning!

Last Sunday we went to the Knights of Nemesis parade in here in Chalmette. A good time was had by all. The family and I had a wonderful time on New Year's Eve. The Miserendinos invited us and the Joneses over for a get-together. It was fun! I'm just so thankful that we are all happy and healthy and that more of our dear friends are finally home in "da parish."

The new year also ushered in some winter weather. Wednesday and Thursday were downright cold! The temps never made it out of the 30s. I realize that for some of you that's nothing, but New Orleans doesn't usually get that cold. I loved it, though! I may have been born and raised down here, but I have never gotten used to the hot and muggy N'awlins summers. Today was a beautiful day, sunny with temps in the 50s, but I was complaining that it was too warm! Oh well, can't please everyone!

We returned to school yesterday, and I can't say I was too happy about it. Oh sure, I was glad to see my friends and students, but it just didn't seem to make sense for us to go back for only two days. I think we'll all be in a better frame of mind once Monday rolls around. Monday also marks the beginning of the second semester. My students won't be leaving me since they have English all year, but it's still a time for a fresh start. I hope I'm blessed with a second semester that's as good as the first one!

I didn't do much scrapping over the holiday, mostly because my room is in disarray! We moved Daddy's exercise bike in here temporarily to make room for the Christmas tree. We also have totes, boxes, and wrapping paper all over. We plan to pack up the Christmas decorations this weekend, so hopefully I'll get to scrapping soon. I did do a few pages at the kitchen table last weekend while watching football. I have been organizing photos, so I hope I'll be able to scrap them very soon! Scrappin' Buds is having a 50% off sale through tomorrow, so I think I'll head over there and spend the GC I got for Christmas!

I found this scrapbook site yesterday, and I was soooo inspired by it. It's called Pencil Lines, and there's so much great stuff on it. I realize it may not be new to some of you, but if you haven't been there, check it out!

Happy Friday!

Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-15420159073482542242007-12-31T13:45:00.000-06:002007-12-31T13:59:41.279-06:00

Happy New Year!

Just wanted to take a moment to wish my friends a very Happy New Year! It's Christmas! I am so excited about the holiday! Christmas does bring out the kid in most of us, and it certainly does in me. I love looking at our beautifully decorated tree and can't wait to open the presents under it. I'm looking forward to spending the holiday with my family. I'm also looking forward to watching the kids with their presents. I think that's the most fun of all!

We've been quite busy during the holiday season. Last weekend we celebrated Justin & Kaitlin's birthdays and went to a wonderful Christmas party at the Joneses. This past Thursday was our CHS Christmas luncheon. Yesterday we got to visit with dear friends at a baby shower. Dad and I have been to two Saints games over the last two Sundays. (We won't discuss today's outcome!) Exams have come and gone, and fortunately I have graded them all!

This year we will follow our Christmas tradition and spend Christmas at Ryan and Lori's. A new tradition we started after Katrina was Christmas Eve at Troy and Jennifer's. Two days of family and food--what else could you want?!

Probably the thing I'm most excited for is Midnight Mass. This year I will be lectoring. I can't wait! We haven't been to Midnight Mass in several years, and I've never lectored on a big holiday before. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity. Blessed--isn't that what Christmas is all about? It's about a baby born over 2000 years ago, a baby who was born and would later die to save the world. The real reason for Christmas is Jesus Christ. He gave us the most important gift of all, the gift of love.

May you and yours be blessed and surrounded by love during this holiday season. If you can help, please let me know!)

Yes, life is definitely good! Things have been going well of late. I celebrated my birthday not once but four times! Yep, you read that right! There were two dinners with friends, a celebration at home, and a birthday pie on Thanksgiving. That's me blowing out the candles on the birthday pie with Kaitlin and Bella. They were great little helpers!

Speaking of Thanksgiving, my turkey day was a good one. Our family, along with Rachael and the kids, had our traditional Thanksgiving dinner at the Lucias. We ate a little earlier than usual since Ryan and Lori were leaving on a cruise that day, but otherwise it was the same comfortable holiday. I just love Thanksgiving! I always have, ever since I was a little girl. I don't know why. I think it just gives me the warm fuzzies. Food, family, and fun--what more could you want?

Now the Christmas season is in full swing. Chez Derb is all decorated and looks great. Most of the presents are bought and wrapped. I've had so much fun doing my Christmas shopping this year. I love shopping for my family and friends! This is the first week of Advent, and it will be so cool to go to church tomorrow and see the Advent wreath. I've already watched Rudolph once, and I'm sure I'll watch it several more times in the next few weeks. I looooove that cartoon! Rudolph totally rocks!

School has been going well. The kids are busy and working hard. They take exams in a few weeks, and I hope they do well. I want them to take their exams seriously. Last night the 8th graders had a dance, and I went. They had a good time. I love to see them outside of class and having fun. There's still so little for our kids to do in St. Bernard. They need more dances like this.

I finally got to crop at Scrappin' Buds last Saturday. They had an all-day crop, but I couldn't go since I was lectoring at 4:00 Mass. I really wanted to go, so I just went after church. It was like a regular Friday night crop. I miss living just 15 minutes from a scrapbook store! It was also the first time in a while that I got to crop with Angela. We had a good time! If you want to see some of my pages, you can check them out in my Scrap in Style gallery.

Tomorrow is the first Saints home game in three weeks. Yay! They play the division-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We really need a win! Last week the Saints played an awesome game against Carolina. They need another performance like that tomorrow. Hopefully Saints fans will be celebrating when they leave the Dome tomorrow night. Look for me on TV in case I get on!

Talk to you all soon!Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-68816230766264412572007-10-30T19:14:00.000-05:002007-10-30T19:53:31.830-05:00

Happy Halloween!

Yes, I realize I'm a day early, but I know I won't get a chance to post tomorrow. I just love Halloween! Decorating, kids in costumes, sharing treats with my students--what's not to love about it?

Check out my cool pic! That's me at the Scrapbooks Etc. Halloween crop last weekend. I'm wearing my winning costume. I was a giant scrapbook page? Pretty clever, huh! The crop was so much fun. I don't make it out to SBE as much as I used to pre-Katrina, so any time I get to spend out there is cherished. I got a lot of pages done and had a ball.

School is going well. Yesterday was Report Card Conference Day. I saw several of the parents I needed to see, but I wish there had been a bigger turnout. Actually, that's typical of my grade level. Parents really don't stay as involved in their children's schools as the kids get older. It's sad, really. I think teens need their parents as much as the younger kids do.

This weekend is my 20-year High School Reunion! I can't believe it! Time has just flown by! I certainly don't feel that old! I am really looking forward to it. Several old friends whom I haven't seen since Katrina will be in town, and I can't wait to see them. We're going to have so much fun.

If you like scrapbooking and mystery books, then you will love the book I just finished reading. It's called Motif for Murder, and it's by an author named Laura Childs. It's one of a series of Scrapbook Mystery novels set in New Orleans. The heroine is a woman who owns a scrapbook store and solves crimes. I liked this one so much that I ordered the first three in the series. If you've read them, let's discuss!
Enjoy your Halloween! Have a fun but safe time!

P.S. Someone very special is celebrating a birthday tomorrow, and I need to give her a special shout out. Who is it? It's only the greatest little sister ever! Happy Birthday, Debbie! Have a super fabulous wonderful day! I love you!

Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-51707546201606755482007-10-27T19:22:00.000-05:002007-10-27T19:25:51.589-05:00

Like Mother, Like Daughter!

Yep, that's my Kirby sitting at my scrap table. I've been alternating between being busy and being a lazy slug. Life has been good as of late, and I'd like to share some of the things that have been going on.

August was a busy month! The most important happening was back to school. The kiddos returned on August 15. I can honestly say I was not ready for the school year to begin. Even though I took the summer off, I didn't want to go back. Of course I was happy once the first day of school arrived. I'm loving my students so far. It's been a pleasure to teach kids who are so eager to learn. My Read 180 lab looks awesome! It's all decked out for the New Orleans Saints! I haven't taken any pics yet, so I need to do that and get 'em posted.

August was also a party month! Sooo many things going on! We started out by going to a birthday party for our sweet friend Adam. He's seven years old already! He had such a great time. The following day we attended our annual LaQuinta reunion brunch at The Court of Two Sisters. It was so much fun to see Gio and Travis and all our friends. We ate lots of great food and spent time catching up with some wonderful people! I hope this is a tradition we can continue.

One of the most fun things I did this past month was see the play Bless Ya Boys. It was literally the most hysterical thing I have ever seen! Some of you in the N.O. area may know Barry Lemoine. For those of you who don't, he is a wonderful local actor, director, and playwright. He and his Shine crew put on a wonderfully funny and irreverent tribute to the New Orleans Saints. I laughed so hard that I cried! I loved it so much that I went back to see it a second time. The show's initial run at Flour Power in Chalmette has ended, but it will begin another run at Le Chat Noir beginning September 11. Run, run, run to see this wonderful show!

Something else fun we did was go to the Knights of Nemesis luau. A good time was had by all! This year I even got Mom, Daddy, and Debbie to go! We ate, we danced, we drank, we had fun. It was so good to hang out with our dear friends and see people we hadn't seen in a while. You can click on the link above to see some pics on the club's website.

Of course I spent a lot of time scrapbooking! That's a no-brainer! I've been scooping up on some really cute new stuff that just came out at CHA. Now I just need to use it. This work thing is really getting in the way of my scrapbook time!

Enjoy your Labor Day!
Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-1540825645824673452007-07-30T20:51:00.000-05:002007-07-30T21:05:11.935-05:00

Doctor, Doctor, Give Me the News!

Uh, no, I don't have a bad case of loving anyone! It just seems like the closer I get to 40, the more I start to fall apart. Let me start at the beginning. Last fall I was having some serious foot pain. I went to the local nurse practitioner, and the x-rays showed that I had a heel spur. Ouch! Over time the pain went away, but it came back in full force this spring. I finally went to a podiatrist last week and was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. Isn't that lovely? That's what was causing the heel spurs. (Yep, spurs plural. Got two of 'em now. No, they don't jingle, jangle, jingle.) For the next month I get to wear my lovely new Nike running shoes. I have to wear running shoes because they have the most arch support and heel padding. (Oh yeah, I've got high arches too. I'm batting 1000!) No cute sandals, no pedicures--no one's gonna see my toesies. But hey, if this will help me recover faster, so be it. The doc said the whole recovery process could be about three to four months. Yikes!

Then last week I started with the "crud" again. You know the deal--head congestion, sneezing, cough, sore throat. Yesterday I was totally miserable, so this morning I knew a doctor's appointment was in order. Saw the local nurse practitioner again, and he hooked me up. I've got decongestants, cough medicine, nasal spray, and antibiotics. Better living through chemistry, I say! I also got a cortisone shot, and I made sure the nurse gave it to me in my left hip. Why? The left foot is the bad one!

My week hasn't been totally bad. I did go to a 12-hour crop at Scrappin' Buds on Saturday. It was the first time in a few months that Angela and I got to crop together. Yay! As always, it was a good time. Up top is a layout I did of me with Ange. The pic was taken during our stay in the French Quarter in May. I'm loving the 6x12 pages!

Have a great week!

Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-21762688265867592942007-07-16T20:36:00.001-05:002007-07-16T23:30:09.334-05:00Feel the Love!

I thought that today I would share some things that have been making me happy. Come along with me on my little journey!

*QVC! I have some shirts for work and a pair of Birkenstocks on the way. My favorite recent purchase is this beautiful ring. I love anything with a fleur-de-lis! As QVC host Lisa Robertson would say, "Love, love, love!"

*Elsie Flannigan! This girl totally rocks! I love Elsie's work, and her new line Love, Elsie is fabulous. She is a constant source of inspiration.

*Music! I recently pulled out my Duran Duran CDs and have been enjoying them all over again. I've also been listening to Fall Out Boy and Joss Stone lately. Check them out if you haven't already!

*Owls! I don't know if it's because the owl is the CHS mascot or if it's because I've been seeing lots of cute ones lately, but owls are a recent fave of mine. Check out a really cute one here.

*Harry Potter! I plan to see the new movie this week, and I cannot wait for the new book to come out on Saturday. I pre-ordered mine months ago, and I will be stalking my mail lady Saturday morning!

What are some things that have been making you happy? Leave me a comment and let me know!Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-32789927873953551712007-07-08T20:53:00.000-05:002007-07-08T21:11:30.013-05:00Well, Hellooooo There!

I know what you're thinking. You're probably saying to yourself, "Where the hell has this girl been for the last 10 months? Why has she not updated this blog? Why have I bothered checking?" And for that, I must apologize. I could lie and say that I've been in a body cast since September and unable to type, but I'm not a very good liar. So just what have I been doing? Hmmmm, let me see...

I was working! As you are probably aware, I went back to work in St. Bernard parish last year. I spent the school year teaching 7th and 8th grade language arts at Chalmette High School. It was just so good to be home! I had a bit of a crazy year, but it was certainly a good one! I taught some great kids. I also made new teacher friends and reconnected with others. Since April I've had the opportunity to attend several workshops and learn some exciting new things. I can't wait to use it all in my classroom! I will be returning to CHS next year since 8th grade is staying. I'm looking forward to another great year.

I was scrapbooking! You know how passionate I am about my scrapbooking, and I've been scrapping up a storm. I've had lots of fun scrapping as of late since I acquired some new scrapping buddies. Angela and Christie got sucked back into this wonderful hobby, and we've done some cropping together. Angela and I went to a few all day crops, and I'm looking forward to spending some quality scrapbook time with her before we go back to school. One of my new scrapping goals is to be published. I know I'll never be a famous scrapper or a Creating Keepsakes Hall of Famer or anything, but I've gotten some nice feedback on my pages and I'd really like to share them. I'd also like to teach the world to sing and but it a Coke, so we'll see if any of this happens.

I was watching the Saints! Yeah, I know football season ended in January, but I'm still on a euphoric high over last season. That was one wild ride! I never dreamed my Saints would do so well. I hoped they would, but I didn't think I'd see it in my lifetime. LOL Coach Peyton had our boys playing some serious football. I've never seen a Saints team so disciplined. They were able to bounce back from adversity, a quality past Saints teams have lacked. It is appropriate that I am listening to Fall Out Boy singing "Thanks for the Memories" as I type this. I will never forget this season. We made it all the way to the NFC Championship! I'm sure the upcoming season will provide us with just as many thrilling moments. You have no idea how exciting it was to sit in the Superdome for our first game back, Monday Night Football against the Falcons. Amazing! Then to actually watch our boys dominate the Eagles in the playoffs like they did, wow! I cried tears of joy when that game was over. Hurry up, football season!

I was being lazy! Yeah, I admit it, there were lots of times I could have blogged but didn't. I know, there's no excuse for it. I promise to be a better blogger in the future.

OK, so there's just a brief recap. I will try to post at least once a week, if not more, to keep you up to date. Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14508161.post-1159120790858120762006-09-24T12:57:00.000-05:002006-09-24T13:03:55.516-05:00 Look Out, Abercrombie! I love this picture! I took it yesterday at my cousin Bella's birthday party. This is my cousin and Bella's big brother Colby. Don't you just love the look? I think he's an Abercrombie model-in-training. This kid has so much bull with him that he's either going to be a lawyer or a used car salesman. He could sell ice to an Eskimo! He has also endeared himself to me for life by being a Saints fan. Love ya, Colby! You rock!Bridgethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13838620611356175664noreply@blogger.com0
